ASTAR Personnel Pty Ltd trading as ASTAR Recruitment (ABN 47 117 073 035) respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and how you can access, correct or complain about it.
We are bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. As a labour hire and recruitment business we handle personal information about both jobseekers and our clients' staff, and we take that seriously.
01What we collect
If you are looking for work
- Name, phone number, email address and the suburb you live in
- How you travel to work, and the shifts and locations you can accept
- Licences and tickets you hold — forklift LF and LO, high reach, white card, driver licence classes, working at heights
- Your work history, skills and any resume you send us
- Whether you have the right to work in Australia, and evidence of it
- Records of shifts worked, timesheets, pay and superannuation
- Site induction records, WHS training and any incident reports
If you are an employer or client
- Your name, position, company, phone number and email address
- Your site address and the roles, shifts and headcount you need
- Records of orders placed, workers supplied and invoices issued
When you use this website
- Anything you type into our enquiry or registration forms
- Standard analytics data — pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type, and how you arrived at the site
- Advertising identifiers, where you reached us through a Google advertisement
Sensitive information. Some information we may need is treated as sensitive under the Privacy Act — for example the results of a police check, a pre-employment medical, or a drug and alcohol screen where a client site requires one. We only collect this where it is reasonably necessary for placing you in work, and only with your consent. You may decline, though this may mean we cannot place you at sites that require it.
02How we collect it
Usually directly from you — through this website, by phone, by email, in an interview, or on a registration form.
Sometimes we collect information about you from others, where you would reasonably expect it:
- Referees you have nominated
- A client site reporting on your work, attendance or a safety incident
- Licence and qualification registers, to verify a ticket you have told us about
- Job boards and professional networking sites, where you have made your details available for recruitment purposes
03Why we collect it
- To assess your suitability for work and place you with our clients
- To verify your licences, qualifications and right to work
- To meet our obligations as your employer — pay, superannuation, tax, workers compensation and work health and safety
- To supply staff to our clients and manage those engagements
- To respond to enquiries and provide our services
- To meet our obligations under labour hire licensing laws in Victoria, Queensland and South Australia
- To improve our website and understand which advertising is working
If you choose not to give us the information we ask for, we may not be able to place you in work or provide the service you have asked about.
04Who we share it with
- Our clients — where we put you forward for or place you in a role, we share the information they need to make a decision and to host you safely on site
- Service providers — payroll, our recruitment database, IT and email providers, and the form software used on this website
- Insurers and regulators — where required, including workers compensation insurers and labour hire licensing authorities
- Other ASTAR Services Group businesses, where relevant to the service you have asked for
- Anyone else where you have consented, or where the law requires or permits it
We do not sell personal information, and we do not disclose it to third parties for their own marketing.
05Overseas disclosure
Some of the services we use store or process information outside Australia. This means your personal information may be held on servers overseas.
| Service | Used for | Country |
|---|---|---|
| Jotform | Website enquiry and registration forms | United States |
| Google Analytics and Google Ads | Website analytics and advertising | United States and others |
| Microsoft 365 | Australia, with possible overseas support access |
Before disclosing personal information overseas we take steps reasonably required to ensure the recipient handles it consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
06How we hold it and keep it secure
We hold personal information in our recruitment database, our email system, and in secure physical files at our offices. We protect it with access controls, staff training, and agreements with the providers who handle it for us.
We keep personal information only as long as we need it, or as long as the law requires — employment and payroll records must be kept for at least seven years. When we no longer need it, we destroy it or de-identify it.
No system is completely secure. While we take reasonable steps to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Data breaches. If a breach occurs that is likely to result in serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as required by the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.
07Cookies and website tracking
This website uses cookies and similar technology, including Google Analytics and Google Ads, to understand how the site is used and to measure our advertising.
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Some parts of the site may not work properly if you do.
You can opt out of Google Analytics at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, and adjust advertising personalisation in your Google account settings.
08Accessing and correcting your information
You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct anything that is wrong or out of date. Contact us using the details below.
We will usually respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity first. In limited circumstances we may refuse access — for example where it would unreasonably affect another person's privacy — and if we do, we will tell you why in writing.
There is no charge for making a request, though we may charge a reasonable fee for the cost of providing access.
09Complaints
If you think we have mishandled your personal information, please contact us first. We will acknowledge your complaint and aim to resolve it within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner:
- Online at oaic.gov.au
- By phone on 1300 363 992
- By post to GPO Box 5218, Sydney NSW 2001
